Nobel Prize in Economics

In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden's central bank) established this Prize in memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. The first Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to Ragnar Frisch and Jan Tinbergen in 1969. Since 1969 till 2007 The Prize has been awarded to 61 individuals.



Value

The Prize amount for 2007 is set at Swedish kronor (SEK) 10 million per full Prize.

Conditions

1.
The candidates eligible for the Prize in Economics are those nominated by qualified persons who have received an invitation from the Economics Prize Committee to submit names for consideration.
2.
Nomination to the Prize in Economics is by invitation only (No one can nominate himself or herself).
3.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is responsible for the choice of the Laureates in Economics from among the candidates recommended by the Economics Prize Committee.
4.
The Economics Prize Committee is the working body that screens the nominations and selects the final candidates for the Prize in Economics.
5.
The Economics Prize Committee is composed of five members, but for many years the Committee has included adjunct members with the same voting rights as members.
6.
The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.
